There is some truth to the old saying “you are what you eat.” Keeping yourself properly nourished and hydrated through your diet will really help your skin look healthy and glowing. Here’s a rundown of foods that can prevent dryness and maintain a good moisture balance.

Water, Water Everywhere – If the skin’s outer layer does not contain a sufficient amount of H2O it will most definitely become rough and dry. It’s important to drink the recommended amount of water for your body weight and activity level; usually 6 – 8 glasses per day.

Carrots and Sweet Potatoes – Loaded with beta carotene as well as vitamins A and C, these orange beauties are great choices for dry skin. They stimulate collagen production, keeping skin firm and healthy.

Foods Rich in Omega 3’s – Eating foods rich in Omega 3 EFAs (essential fatty acids) is an ideal way to fight dry skin and keep it well-hydrated. Fish such as salmon, sardines, and mackerel are excellent sources, as are walnuts, flax seeds, and hemp seeds. Seaweed also has an abundance of Omega 3 oils, and you can find it in skin rejuvenation serums like Stemnucell.

Avocados - Avocados are great skin quenchers, packed with healthy fats and nutrients. Products like Suvoderm include avocado oil, providing rich conditioning benefits for dry skin types.

Leafy Greens – The greener the better! With a built-in army of antioxidants, green veggies - especially kale and spinach - help fight free radical damage, leaving skin looking radiant and healthy.

Nuts and seeds – Almost all nuts and seeds are power foods for the skin. These little superheroes host Omega-3 fatty acids, vitamins A, B, and E, monounsaturated fats, minerals, and antioxidants – packing a lot of punch into such little packages. They help skin retain moisture and create a strong barrier that protects it from environmental hazards.
